You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is within them. To You belongs all praise. You are the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is within them. To You belongs all praise. To You belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is within them. To You belongs all praise. You are the King of the heavens and the earth. To You belongs all praise. You are the Truth, Your promise is true, meeting You is true, Your word is true, Paradise is true, Hell is true, the Prophets are true, Muhammad (peace be upon him) is true, and the Hour is true. O Allah, to You I submit, in You I believe, upon You I rely, to You I turn in repentance, by You I argue (against my opponents), and to You I seek judgment. So forgive me for what I have sent forward and what I have delayed, what I have hidden and what I have revealed. You are the One who brings forward and the One who delays. There is no god but You.

Recommended Recitation: Recite this supplication after the final Tashahhud, before concluding the prayer with Tasleem, especially during the last third of the night.

The Spiritual & Emotional Significance of This Supplication

Tahajjud, the voluntary night prayer, represents the pinnacle of a believer’s connection with their Creator. In the silence of the night, when the world sleeps and the ego is at its most subdued, the doors of mercy open wide. This time is not merely for rituals; it is a profound journey of the soul seeking purification, forgiveness, and the fulfillment of deep-seated needs. When you stand in prayer at night, you are responding to the Divine Call of the One who descends to the lowest heaven, asking, “Who will call upon Me that I may answer him?” (Sahih al-Bukhari). This act of sacrificing comfort for the sake of Allah demonstrates sincerity, which is the key to having one’s prayers accepted. Whether you are battling internal spiritual struggles, seeking forgiveness for past transgressions, or requesting worldly relief, Tahajjud is your sanctuary. If you are struggling with daily anxieties, you may also find comfort in our guidance on the path of eternal stillness for relief from sudden panic.

Authentic Arabic Supplication with Tashkeel, Transliteration and Word-by-Word Meaning

The supplication provided in the opening box is one of the most comprehensive prayers taught by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for the night prayer. It is an act of total surrender. By acknowledging Allah’s sovereignty over the heavens and earth and testifying that His promise is the ultimate Truth, you align your heart with the reality of the unseen. When you reach the part, “faghfir li ma qaddamtu…” (forgive me for what I have done before and after), you are effectively clearing the path between you and Allah, removing the veils of sin that obstruct your connection. This is the moment to pour out your specific needs—for marriage, for health, for sustenance, or for spiritual steadfastness—knowing that you are standing before the King of the Universe.

Authentic Hadith Citations & Quranic Evidence

The Quran highlights the status of those who spend the night in worship: “Their sides forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend (in charity in Allah’s Cause) out of what We have bestowed on them” (Surah As-Sajdah, 32:16). Furthermore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The closest the Lord is to His servant is in the middle of the last portion of the night; so if you can be among those who remember Allah in that hour, then do so” (Tirmidhi). These narrations confirm that Tahajjud is the most effective time for petitioning for one’s needs, as the sincerity of the worshipper is tested by the difficulty of waking up at such an hour. Practical Recitation Etiquette, Best Times, and Virtues

To maximize the spiritual yield of Tahajjud, observe these etiquettes:

  • Purity: Perform Wudu with intention, ensuring you approach the prayer with physical and spiritual cleanliness.
  • Timing: Aim for the last third of the night. Divide the time from Maghrib to Fajr by three; the final third is the most blessed window.
  • Secrecy: Keep your Tahajjud hidden from others to protect your sincerity (Ikhlas).
  • Consistency: Even if it is only two short Rakat, consistency is beloved to Allah.
  • The State of Prostration: While the supplication provided is excellent for Tashahhud, feel free to make personal supplication in Sujood (prostration) in your own language, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) encouraged, “A slave is closest to his Lord when he is prostrating, so increase your supplications in it” (Sahih Muslim).
